Islamabad (August 17, 2018): Caretaker Information Minister Ali Zafar will attend the last rites of former Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
According to the details, Caretaker Information Minister Ali Zafar will represent Caretaker Prime Minister Nasirul Mulk in the last rites.Indian embassy said that they will issue the visa to the information minister today. After attending the last rites, the information minister will leave for the homeland in the evening. Sources said that Ali Zafar will leave for New Delhi via a chartered flight.
The last rites of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee will take place at 4 pm today at Rashtriya Smriti Sthal in Delhi, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah said. The body of the BJP veteran has been kept at his official residence—6, A Krishna Menon Marg—for last respects.Shah said people can pay homage to the departed leader at his residence from 7.30 am to 8.30 am today. The body would then be taken to the BJP headquarters at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg at around 9 am, he told reporters outside the late leader’s residence. Vajpayee’s funeral procession would leave the BJP headquarters at 1 pm and the last rites would be performed at 4 pm, he said.Earlier, the former Indian Prime Minister passed away on Thursday at the age of 93. Vajpayee breathed his last at the AIIMS where he was admitted on June 11 with multiple health issues.
The AIIMS had in a statement on Wednesday night described the former Indian PM’s condition as critical. “Atal Bihari Vajpayee has been admitted for the last 9 weeks at AIIMS.

Vajpayee was a diabetic and had only one functional kidney. His cognitive abilities had significantly weakened after he suffered a stroke in 2009. Later, he also developed dementia. Earlier in June, the BJP had described Vajpayee’s hospitalization as a “routine check-up”. Vajpayee was treated under the supervision of renowned pulmonologist Randeep Guleria (Director, AIIMS), who had been the BJP leader’s personal physician for several years. Vajpayee was prime minister of India for a brief period in 1996. He again became the PM for two consecutive stints from 1998 to 2004. However, due to his deteriorating health condition in the last 10 years, he had retired from active politics.
