Back of Daesh network broken in Pakistan: DG IB

Director General Intelligence Bureau Aftan Sultan informed the Senate Standing Committee chaired by Senator Rahman Malik for Interior that the back of the banned Tehreek Taliban outfit network has been broken  and the suspects of all the major terrorism incidents are being arrested. It would take another 8-10 years to eradicate terrorism from the country.

Giving briefing to the meeting of the Committee DG IB Aftab Sultan informed that law and order situation has improved all across the country and that target killings and terrorism have be eradicated in Karachi. Due to Operation Zarb-e-Azb the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan has been routed out and the terrorists have fled across the border. The government is pondering imparting training to tribal people and recruit them in security agencies and giving them interest-free loans.

He further informed that though Daesh’s network is eliminated, however, its threat looms still. Al-Qaeda Sub-continent is also present in Pakistan while terror groups are in league.

During the last six months 581 terrorists were arrested in KPK province and eight terrorists involved in attack on Wagah Border and another two involved in attack on Bashir Bilor have been arrested. In Jarachi those who carried attacks on Chaudhary Aslam, Senator Khalid Soomro and Justice Maqbool Baqar have been arrested. Th mind set has to be changed to eliminate terrorism, he added.

Calling eradication of terrorism a big challenge Senator Rahman Malik lauded Intelligence Bureau’s role reiterated that Taliban would be wiped out.

Earlier the DG IB gave in camera briefing to the committee members about taping of important personalities by foreign embassies and covert monitoring of government meetings.
