Data of 19,500 Candidates Sent for Verification: ECP

Islamabad (June 12, 2018): Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) Scrutiny Cell is verifying all the nominations papers of candidates using modern technology.

According to the spokesperson of ECP, data of more than 19500 candidates have been shared with the NAB, NADRA, FBR and the State Bank of Pakistan through an online system.

Verification of about ten thousand nomination papers has so far been done with the help of online data scrutiny system.These nomination papers have now been forwarded to the returning officers.

ECP says that nomination papers of dozens of candidates have been declared suspicious.

Earlier,  the Election Commission had allowed the candidates submission of papers till 1800 hours(6pm) yesterday.

According to the election schedule, scrutiny process of nomination papers will continue till 19th while appeals against rejection or acceptance of papers can be filed by 22nd of this month.

The Appellate Tribunals will decide about the appeals by 27th, after which the revised list of candidates will be published on 28th of this month.Candidates can withdraw their papers by 29th of this month, after which the final list of candidates will be published the same day.

Election symbols will be allotted to the contesting candidates on 30th of this month, while the polling for both National and Provincial Assembly elections will be held on 25th of next month.

Maryam Nawaz To Contest from NA -127

Maryam Nawaz, the daughter of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will contest the upcoming elections, the first of her political career, from the National Assembly constituency in Lahore NA-127.

According to the details, Tanveer Zia Butt, on the behalf of Maryam Nawaz, submitted the nomination paper for NA-127 constituency in the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

Bilawal Submitted Nomination Papers For NA from Three Constituencies

Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Monday submitted his nomination papers for NA 200, Larkana-I.

According to the details, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari reached RO Office to submit his nomination papers to contest elections from NA 200, Larkana-I.

He was accompanied by senior leaders of the party including, Syed Khursheed Shah, Farooq H Naik, Sohail Anwar Siyal, Nisar Khuhro, Asifa Bhutto.

A large number of party workers were also present on the occasion.  Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to contest elections from Larkana and Lyari.

Pervez Musharraf Submitted Nomination Papers

Following the assurance by the Supreme Court, former President Pervez Musharraf submitted nomination papers to contest the upcoming general elections from a National Assembly constituency  NA-1 (Chitral), NA-188 (Layyah) and NA-247, Karachi.

The papers in Karachi were submitted by the former president’s lawyer and party leaders from NA-247 Karachi to the returning officer in the area, the first constituency of the lower house of parliament.Musharraf Submits Nomination Papers from Karachi, ChitralThe papers were submitted by the former president’s lawyer and party leaders from NA-1 Chitral to the returning officer in the area.

Chaudhry Nisar To Contest Polls Independently  

Finally, the skirmish between the party and disgruntled party leader and Former interior minister Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan reached at the decisive point as he had unveiled his plan for the upcoming election and announced that he would contest the general election 2018 as an independent candidate.

Nisar, one of the most senior PMl-N leader, announced his decision during a corner meeting held at Adiala Road on Monday.

“The party [PML-N] had given tickets to political orphans,” Nisar said, adding, “There are 10 faults in the PTI but 100 [faults] in the PML-N.”

He said that it is time for him to work even harder, as he would be contesting the election as an independent candidate.

“The party [PML-N] had issued tickets to political orphans,” he alleged. “I will contest the election as independent; there is a need for even more hard work now.”

The PML-N stalwart used the occasion to target his party’s leadership, saying: “These Sharifs will not able to show their faces anywhere if I decide to open my mouth.”Nisar To Contest Election As An Independent CandidateHe suggested that he had been keeping mum on matters he did not disclose because of his 34-year association with the Sharif brothers.

“An opponent of Aurat Raj (Women’s Rule) has imposed his daughter on the party,” he said, in an apparent reference to PML-N supreme leader Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz.

On June 08, Election Commission of Pakistan had extended the last date for filing nomination papers from Friday to Monday next to facilitate all aspiring candidates of general elections.

It said priority lists of candidates for reserved seats should also be submitted until June 11(Monday).

Earlier, ECP held a meeting in connection with the participation of int’l observers in General Elections 2018.A meeting in connection with the participation of international observers in the General Elections 2018 was held in Islamabad on Thursday with Secretary Election in the chair.

The meeting reviewed the legal provision as per Election Act 2017.

The ECP reiterated its policy to allow international observers and international media as well as national observers to participate in the process of Election 2018.
