Deadlock between Punjab govt, Ghee Mills Association continues

LAHORE: Deadlock continued between Banaspati Mills Association and Punjab government over reduction of ghee and cooking oil prices up to Rs15 per litre. However, second phase of dialogues would commence tomorrow.

Punjab government announced Rs15 reduction in ghee and cooking oil prices after significant decrease in palm oil rates in international markets. Whereas, the oil association rejected the notification of Punjab government while first phase of dialogues ended up without any result.

The association claimed that the traders cannot make the reduction over recommendation of the Punjab government while dealers have stopped their trade activities which could result severe shortage of cooking oil and ghee. It should be mentioned that Punjab has approximately 4,500 tons demand of ghee and cooking oil.
