Death Toll Jumps To 22 in Peshawar Blast

Peshawar (July 12, 2018): Two more of the injured succumbed to their wounds bringing the death toll from Tuesday’s suicide blast to 22, officials said on Thursday.

The deadly blast targeted a corner meeting of the Awami National Party (ANP) in Peshawar’s Yakatoot area. Party leader Barrister Haroon Bilour was among those martyred in the attack.

Earlier on, the slain Awami National Party (ANP) leader Haroon Bilour was laid to rest on Wednesday in Peshawar amid the scenes of mourn and tears rolling on the cheeks of supporters.

The people including party workers and related to all walks of life attended the funeral prayers of the slain leader.

Presently, 62 people injured in the suicide attack are seeking treatment at Lady Reading Hospital, authorities confirmed.The deceased ANP leader was set to contest the July 25 elections from Peshawar’s PK-78 constituency.

The son of Bashir Ahmed Bilour, a senior ANP figure who, himself, was martyred in a suicide attack in 2012 after a party meeting, Haroon was rushed to the hospital in a critical condition but succumbed to his wounds shortly after.ANP’s Haroon Bilour Among 14 Martyred In Peshawar BlastECP Postpones Polls on PK-78

Following the incident, the Election Commission of Pakistan postponed the polls in PK-78 (Peshawar-XIII) constituency.

The polls have been postponed due to the death of the PK-78 candidate, the electoral body said, adding that the new schedule for the said constituency will be announced later.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council has also announced a three-day mourning in light of the attack, with lawyers beginning the boycott of court proceedings today. JIT Formed To Investigate Yaka Toot BlastJIT Formed

A Joint Investigation Team(JIT) to investigate into Yaka Toot blast was formed under the leadership of DIG Saleem Marwat.

The committee will submit its report till Monday.
