ISLAMABAD: The declaration of meeting between Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and the Afghan Taliban delegation, headed by Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, has been issued on Thursday (today).
According to a declaration, Pakistan and the Afghan Taliban have agreed on the importance of early revival of the Afghan peace process during a meeting at the Foreign Office in Islamabad.
A high-level Taliban delegation met Qureshi as part of a push to revive the Afghan peace process stalled after US President Donald Trump abruptly declared the talks with the rebel group “dead”.
“Both countries are equally facing the consequences of instability in Afghanistan over the past 40 years,” Shah Mahmood Qureshi said during a meeting.
In his remarks, Shah Mahmood Qureshi emphatically stated that “Pakistan will continue to sincerely play the role of facilitator to make the Afghan peace process successful.”
“Revival of the peace process is important to pave the way towards durable peace and stability in Afghanistan,” FM Qureshi stressed.
The Foreign Minister said, “War is no solution to any problem. Dialogue is the only way forward for peace in Afghanistan.”
“Pakistan has sincerely played the role of facilitator in the Afghan peace process,” he said and added that a peaceful Afghanistan is imperative for regional peace and stability.
Shah Mahmood Qureshi said instability in Afghanistan is adversely affecting both Pakistan and Afghanistan. “World is now also endorsing Pakistan’s stance on Afghanistan.”
