Disgruntled MNAs Summoned for Verification of Resignations

Islamabad(April 20, 2018): Four of the six MNAs and two MPAs, who parted ways with the ruling party have been summoned today by the National Assembly speaker.

According to assembly officials, the MNAs have been called as it is compulsory for the lawmakers to verify their resignations before the speaker or secretary of the National Assembly.

The disgruntled MNAs include Khusro Bakhtiar, Basit Bukhari, Tahir Bashir Cheema and Qasim Noon. They are part of the group that has announced a mass movement to make southern Punjab a separate province.On April 9, ruling party PML-N received a major shock, when its six national assembly members (MNAs) and two provincial assembly members announced to leave the party and form South Punjab Province Front.

Addressing joint press conference with other dissident party members, the leading dissident PML-N leader Khusro Bukhtiar said that their press conference was aimed to strengthen federation and pave the way for the new province.

“The purpose of the press conference is to announce the creation of a new province,” Khusro Bakhtiar said while addressing a press conference in Lahore along with other disgruntled leaders.

On April 10,  former PM Nawaz Sharif said about defection of eight party lawmakers from South Punjab on the pretext of making the region into a separate province, he alleged that something probably ‘descended’ on those who left the party.People of South Punjab Are With PML-N: Nawaz Sharif“They were never part of the party,” he said, adding that, “their background is also not from the PML-N”. “These people are those who did not vote for me for party president,he added.
