Disqualification Petition Against Zardari Not Heard At IHC

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court (IHC) did not hear the petition filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf against former president Asif Ali Zardari seeking his disqualification.

According to details, IHC did not hear the petition filed by PTI leaders Khurram Sher Zaman and Usman Dar due to absence of the case from court’s cause list.

Nonetheless, IHC registrar office is expected to fix the hearing of the petition again.

Earlier on Tuesday, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmaker Khurram Sher Zaman and Special Adviser to the Prime Minister on Youth Affairs Usman Dar appeared before the court to file the petition.

Their petition was accepted by IHC for hearing after removal of objections by the petitioners.

CJ IHC Justice Athar Minallah heard arguments for maintainability of the petition today, remarked why political cases were being carried to the courts despite the availability of a concerned forum, Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

He also questioned why to prioritise hearing of the case despite many people were waiting for their turn [for hearings] inside jails. He added that it was time to empower parliament and it was most superior to settle [such kind of] issues.

Petitioner’s lawyer Sikandar Basheer Mohmand argued that ECP was not an appropriate forum to hear complaints filed under Article 62(1)(F) while a judgement of the Sindh High Court (SHC) came in this regards pertaining powers of ECP that disallowed them to hear such petitions.

Mohmand said documents were presented before the IHC that showed evidence of concealing assets by Asif Ali Zardari. He pleaded IHC to prioritise hearing of the case.

Justice Minallah remarked why should the petition put on priority for hearing despite many people were waiting inside jails [for their cases] to be heard by the court.

Later, IHC CJ ordered to fix hearing of disqualification petition against Zardari and asked petitioner’s lawyer to give arguments over an early hearing for the case.
