Driver, assistant responsible for Landhi trains crash, NA body told

ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Railways was told that the driver and assistant drivers were responsible for the Landhi train crash that killed people and injured dozens other last week.

The Standing Committee, which met here, was told that the accident was a result of human error and Driver Muhammad Rafiq and Assitant Driver Atif were responsible for the crash.

The initial investigation report of the accident was presented in the meeting. Secretary Railways Board Aftab Akbar while presenting the report said that as per the initial investigation there was no fault or problem in the engine and signal of the train.

Federal Minister for Railways Saad Rafiq told the committee that the driver ignored the red signal due to which the train rammed into another train at rest at the station.

He said that investigation would be conducted as to what the drivers were doing at the time of the accident.

It is to be mentioned her that at least 22 people were killed and more than 40 injured when two passenger trains collided near Karachi’s Landi Railway Station. He said that the crash cot Railways Rs130 million.
