Drought in Tharparkar: Death toll reaches to 46

MITTHI: The five-week death toll from drought in Tharparkar reached 46 including 37 children after a two-year-old died of malnutrition at the Civil Hospital in Mithi.

The unrelenting drought spell, compounded by poverty, poor nutrition and lack of health facilities and awareness, continues to take its toll on the children of the district.

Around 80 children, admitted to Civil Hospital, are said to be in critical condition.

More than 200 children have died since May, this year alone with most deaths being attributed to the prevalent malnourishment in the desert region which is experiencing its third year of drought.
