Islamabad: Economic Coordination Committee of the cabinet allowed Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) to import wheat to fulfill the country’s requirements.

The ECC meeting was held in the chair of Prime Minister Special Assistant on Finance (PMSA) Dr Abdul Hafeez Shiekh.

The huddle discussed matters related to import of the wheat. The SAPM said that the availability of the wheat is an important issue adding that there is need to have enough stock of it and for the purpose it is neccesary to ensure availability of the wheat at a reasonable price in the country.

The ECC decided to start importing wheat through TCP while the wheat will be imported in passage of time keeping in view its demand.

It is also pertinent to mention here that the government has already allowed private sectors importing wheat, however, the government could not achieve a target of lowering the wheat prices.
