ECP Rejects All Petitions of PTI in Foreign Funding Case

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday rejected four petitions filed by the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) in a foreign funding case.

A three-judge bench, headed by Chief Election Commissioner Sardar Mohammad Raza, conducted the hearing on PTI’s applications seeking secrecy during the scrutiny of its foreign funding sources.

During the hearing, the election commission instructed the scrutiny committee to continue its work and asked PTI representatives to appear before the committee on Oct 14.

In a previous hearing on Oct 1, the ECP bench had reserved its verdict on PTI’s applications after listening to the arguments of the various parties to the case.

In 2014, on the application filed by PTI’s founding member Akbar S Babar, the foreign funding case was heard for a long time at ECP. A special committee was formed in March 2018 for the purpose.

The committee had asked PTI for the details of its accounts against which PTI had challenged the authority of the ECP.
