During the hearing of the case, PML-N counsel told the commission PML-N elected its party head today.
He added that Nawaz Shairf was elected a party head by PML-N general council today.
After this, the CEC remarked that as Nawaz Sharif was elected party head unopposed, the petition become infractious.
After that the commission disposed off the petitions.
It is to be mentioned here that after the failure of PML-N to elect a party president after the disqualification of Nawaz Sharif the commission had declared PML-N as ineligible to get the party symbol.According to PML-N’s party constitution, it was supposed to elect a president within 45 days after the ouster of Sharif — the deadline passed on September 11.
The ECP had issued notice to PML-N Acting Secretary General Ahsan Iqbal stating that due to its failure to elect the party head, the PML-N was now not eligible to get the party symbol.
Earlier in the day, the counsel for PML-N leader Raja Zafarul Haq submitted before the ECP that the commission had no jurisdiction in the matter of denotifying a political party.
