Delay In Results: ECP Seeks Reply From Provincial ECs, DROs

Islamabad (August 01, 2018): The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Wednesday asked provincial election commissioners and district returning officers to submit an explanation about the delay in poll results. 

In a written order, the electoral body inquired responsible officers why the poll results were delayed beyond 2AM. Earlier on July 26, Secretary Election commission of Pakistan (ECP) Babar Yaqoob claimed general elections 2018 were fair, free and transparent, ECP has not received any written complaint about irregularities.

While talking to journalists in Islamabad ECP Secretary Babar Yaqoob accepted that the Result Transmission System could not perform in a manner it was expected to perform, adding that measures will be taken for its improvement.

He said that there were also complaints about the slowness of the 8300 information service which was powered by the ECP; Election body received 675 complaints on the July 25, the day of voting for General Election 2018.

ECP Asks Winning Candidates To Submit Details of Expenses

The Election Commission has directed winning candidates in the general election to submit returns of their election expenses so that notification of their victory could be issued timely.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Commission said the returns should be filed to the Returning Officers concerned.

No candidate has so far submitted details of his election expenses.

ECP Directs Provincial ECs To Send Form 49 Immediately

Earlier on July 31, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) directed all the provincial election commissioners to send the form 49 to ECP of all national and provincial assemblies as soon as possible.

In a letter to all four provincial election commissioners, Chief election commissioner directed the immediate delivery of form 49.

“ECP has not received the form 49 of 61 constituencies of NA, 12 of KP and FATA and 34 from Punjab,” the letter stated adding that ECP has also not received form 49 of 10 NA constituencies in Sindh and five in Balochistan.

Earlier on July 31, the Election Commission of Pakistan on Tuesday rejected demand of some political parties for the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner.

Addressing a news conference in Islamabad, Secretary Election Commission Babar Yaqoob said that all parties were provided level playing field and general elections 2018 were free and fair.

He urged the candidates to pursue legal framework for their grievances.Babar Yaqoob said at the instance of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s the ECP requested the National Accountability Bureau not to arrest political leaders till polls.

He said the Commission decided to postpone polls in NA-60, Rawalpindi constituency after conviction and disqualification of PML-N candidate Hanif Abbasi.

He said winning and losing candidates should respect people’s mandate to strengthen democracy.He said the Commission has sought explanations about delay of results from District Returning Officers and provincial election commissioners.

On the other hand, according to the ECP as many as 142 applications have been received by them for reopening of the constituencies.

The election commission of Pakistan has written a letter to Provincial Election Commissioners of Sindh and KP in this regard.
