ECP suspends hearing of references seeking PM’s, Imran’s, others’ disqualification

ISLAMABAD: Election Commission Pakistan has suspended hearing of reference seeking disqualification of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Imran Khan till Supreme Court’s judgment over Panamgate.

A five-member bench of the ECP headed by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sardar Raza Khan heard the references sent by Speaker National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq. The references seek declaring Imran Khan and Jehagir Tarin disqualified.

Imran Khan and Jehangir Tarin did not appear before the ECP bench while Hamid Khan advocate appeared for Imran Khan.

Meanwhile, the counsel of prime minister Salman aslam Butt informed that High Court too has suspended the hearing of the cases seeking prime minister’s disqualification.

Lawyer of the PTI Hamid Khan said that if the prime minister and other parties to the case feel that the ECP should suspend the hearing they should approach the Supreme Court and get order whether the hearing of the case should be suspended or continue after the panama gate is issue is decided by the Supreme Court.

Reserving the decision the CEC said that a decision in this regard will be announced after consultation within.

Announcing the reserved decision a short while afterward the ECP suspended the hearing of the references against the prime minister, Imran Khan, and others till the decision of the Supreme Court.
