Embezzlement, illegal appointments: Nisar orders inquiry against ex chairman Nadra Tajwar

ISLAMABAD:  Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Friday ordered inquiry against former chairman National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra), who currently Deputy Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB),  Imtiaz Tajwar for alleged embezzlement and illegal appointments in the Authority.

Chaudhry Nisar presided over a high level meeting at Nadra Headquarters, which was briefed on the financial affairs of the Authority. On the complaints of financial irregularities, embezzlement and illegal appointments, the minister directed Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to hold investigation against the former chairman Nadra Imtiaz Tajwar.

The minister expressed his anger over the Nadra officials for acquiring a building at Rs 4.5 million monthly rent. He expressed his astonishment that rent of 18 months of the building had been paid in advance and Rs100 million was  estimated for renovation of the building. He said that it was mere wastage of precious national resources and directed FIA to look into the matter.

In wake of financial irregularities, the discretionary financial powers of chairman Nadra were taken back and handed over to Nadra Board.  The Minister also banned new hiring in Nadra.

He said that all DGs and other high-ups of Nadra will be appointed only after security clearance from the IB and ISI.

The meeting also extended the deadline for voluntary returning of CNICs by the foreigners by one month.
