Tokyo (July 02, 2018): Japan’s Emperor Akihito has cancelled or postponed his engagements, 84 years-old Emperor announced in December that he would abdicate the Chrysanthemum Throne at the end of April 2019.
The Imperial Household Agency said that his symptoms were caused by insufficient blood flow to the brain and the doctor was continuing to monitor his situation.Last year, Japan Parliament accepted the abdication request of Emperor Akihito. He acceded to the Chrysanthemum Throne upon the death of his father, Emperor Hirohito, in 1989 and will be succeeded by his eldest son, Crown Prince Naruhito.
As per the Japanese rituals, Emperor is not allowed to abdicate. This is the second time in last 200 years, that an emperor will abdicate as per his wish. Before this, an emperor abdicated himself for his wish in 1817.
