FATA Legislators Call On PM Imran

Islamabad (October 02, 2018): Legislators from the erstwhile Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) met with Prime Minister Imran Khan here on Tuesday.

While talking to the delegation of FATA members of parliament in Islamabad, PM Imran said the tribal people have faced many difficulties and problems. He said officers should set their direction and should play their due role in solving such problems.

Prime Minister Imran Khan assured them to hold local body elections as soon as possible in the area.

The Prime Minister said tribal people have right on the minerals and these should be spent on the construction and development of the area. He said the government is also striving to establish local government system in FATA.

He vowed to spend the allocated 100 billion rupees on erstwhile FATA districts. The PM assured the FATA legislators that their strength in the parliament will remain unchanged in the new system.PM Imran urged the parliamentarians to launch the election campaign with full momentum for upcoming by-polls in the tribal areas.

Earlier on September 11, Prime Minister Imran Khan had said on Tuesday that the government would provide more than required funds to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for development.

A session discussing the merger of Federally Administered Tribal Areas with KP was held under PM Imran, where progress and legal measures were reviewed.

In the session, important decisions were taken to secure rights of the people of the tribal belt.

PM Imran gave directions that under the tribal traditions, new system will be implemented and tribal people will be consulted.

PM Imran also said that employment will be provided to the youth and placed emphasises on provision of health facilities and education.He said the federal government will play its role to get a development package for these areas in the National Finance Commission Award as well.

The Prime Minister said efforts will be made to improve health and education facilities, especially girls’ schools in the tribal areas.

He said a strategy should be devised to provide speedy and inexpensive justice. He directed to enforce local government system in erstwhile tribal areas in line with suggestions and decisions of the people for the development of the tribal belt.

Imran Khan said no individual should be made jobless as a result of new administrative measures. He said quota reserved for tribal people in schools, colleges, and universities should not be affected in any way.

He said more job opportunities will be created for the youth of these areas.The Prime Minister said consultation with tribal people will be ensured while implementing new system in the area. The new system will be implemented keeping in view customs and traditions of the tribal people.

The meeting also reviewed the progress, legal and administrative measures taken so far towards the merger of erstwhile FATA with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
