Faisal Raza Abidi Remanded For Two Days

Islamabad (October 11, 2018): An anti-terrorism court on Thursday remanded former senator Faisal Raza Abidi into the police custody for two days. 

Judge Syed Kausar Abbas Zaidi of ATC I was hearing the case filed a day earlier by the secretariat police.

On the other hand, the Islamabad High Court rejected former senator Faisal Raza Abidi’s petition to dismiss terror charges against him.While hearing the plea, Justice Moshin Akhtar Kayani remarked that the judiciary and chief justice were being openly threatened. “The attitude of threatening the judiciary is wrong,” he observed.

When asked whether his client was guilty of contempt, Abidi’s lawyer denied the charge. “My client only used harsh words, he did not commit contempt of court,” the lawyer said.

Earlier on October 10, Faisal Raza Abidi was arrested from outside the Supreme Court premises in a contempt of court case.The former parliamentarian has been moved to Secretariat Police Station, Islamabad. He was taken into custody after his appearance in the case hearing at the Supreme Court.

During the hearing, the apex court sought a written reply from the ex-senator in the contempt case he is facing. Abidi requested the court to delay the hearing saying his counsel was out of the country to perform Umrah.

Background 

The Supreme Court took suo moto notice of the alleged anti-judiciary remarks made by former senator Faisal Raza Abidi during a programme on the private channel.

Meanwhile, The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) imposed a fine of Rs1 million on the private channel and also placed a three-month ban on its programme.
