KARACHI: A local court on Sunday remanded former Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Senator Faisal Raza Abidi Abidi in judicial custody till Nov 19 in an illegal arms possession case.
Its to be mentioned here that Abidi was arrested during early morning raid at his Karachi residence in New Rizvia Society on Saturday. SP Jamshed Quarters Tahir Noorani had earlier stated that the outspoken politician had been arrested in in connection with the killing of two men of Tableeghi Jamaat in Patel Para on Friday.
However, police produced Abdi in a court of duty magistrate Malir in a case for possession of illegal arms. A FIR was registered on Sachal Police Station against Faisal Raza Abidi for possession of illegal arms.
The judge sent him to jail on judicial remand till Nov 19. The court ordered the police to present challan of the case in next date of hearing.
It is to be mentioned here that the FIR (379/2016) for the Patel Para double murder had been registered at Jamshed Quarters police station under Section 302 (murder) and 7-ATA (anti-terrorism act of 1997) on complaint of the victims’ relative Ghulam Mohammed against unknown attackers and Abidi has not been named in the original FIR.
The firebrand PPP leader had resigned from his Senate seat in 2014 after developing differences with his party. Abidi, once among the most trusted lieutenants of former president Asif Zardari, was accused of violating party discipline and repeatedly issuing statements in favour of martial law.
