Fake Accounts Case Hearing Adjourned Till May 21

ISLAMABAD: Accountability Court Islamabad on Thursday adjourned the hearing of Fake Bank Accounts case, involving Former President Asif Zardari, his sister Faryal Talpur and 30 other suspects till May 21.

As per details, Accountability Court Judge Arshad Malik resumed hearing on the case today with Pakistan Peoples Party leaders Zardari and Talpur in attendance in the courtroom.

This was the fourth time both politician siblings are appearing before the Accountability Court of Islamabad in this case.

On this occasion, stringent security measures were taken to avert any mishap.

As the hearing commenced, the defense lawyer said before court that Iqbal Khan Noori is under-arrest in another reference whereas Zain Malik was suffering from a bone-marrow disease. Subsequently, the court approved exemption pleas of both suspects.

During the hearing, NAB prosecutor told the court that suspect who are abroad being contacted.

“Accused Azam Wazeer is being contacted via Interpol whereas Nasir Abdullah is also residing abroad”, the prosecutor added.

On this occasion, Asif Zardari’s counsel Farooq Hamid Naek objected NAB’s stance, claiming that laws of the Anti-graft watchdogs do not apply to those individuals who hold foreign nationality.

When inquired by Hamid Naek, NAB prosecutor said that the copies of the filed reference were submitted in the office.

To this, Judge Arshad Malik ordered Anti-graft watchdog to provide copies of the reference to all suspects.

The court then adjourned hearing of the case till May 21 after NAB prosecutor demanded to give him 10 days for making sufficient copies.

It may be pertinent to mention that Asif Ali Zardari has excused from appearing before Combined Investigation Team of the Anti-graft watchdogs today, citing his business with proceedings at the court.
