LAHORE: The leaders of Pakistan Kissan Ittehad ended the protest after meeting with Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif.
The farmers staged protest for three days along Mall Road here. The leaders of Pakistan Kissan Ittehad said they were fed up with the false promises and assurances and adding that importing potatoes, onions, tomatoes from an enemy country like India makes no sense. They also said that farmers never get the full price whether they grow wheat or cotton.
During his meeting with the Kissan leaders Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif assured that farmers would not be made to suffer the loss in upcoming rice and cotton crops and that the Agriculture Department has to play an active role to help resolve problems of the growers. He further said that his government is ready to provide resources worth billions for the development of agriculture but a concrete plan for increasing production has to be made.
CM Punjab also said that action would be taken against sugar mills who do not make payments to the farmers on time.
