Farooq Sattar Approaches Appellate Tribunal

Karachi(June 22, 2018): Leader of Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) Farooq Sattar on Friday approached an appellate tribunal challenging the rejection of his nomination papers for NA-245 Karachi by the respective returning officer.

Farooq Sattar filed an election petition before a Sindh High Court appellate tribunal, requesting it to overturn the returning officer’s verdict with regard to his papers.Speaking to reporters after filing the petition, he expressed optimism that his nomination form will be approved once the tribunal takes up his plea.

A day earlier, the MQM-P leader obtained interim bail from a district court in two criminal cases to contest the July 25 elections.Nomination Papers of Farooq Sattar RejectedEarlier on June 19, Nomination papers of MQM-Pakistan’s Farooq Sattar from NA-245 has been rejected by the Returning Officer.

The returning officer of NA- 245, Ahsan Khan rejected the nomination papers of Farooq Sattar.

RO, Ahsan Khan stated that Farooq Sattar is absconder in two cases. Farooq Sattar had not mentioned this in nomination papers.

However, counsel of Farooq Sattar remarked that his client was unaware of the two cases.Sattar has submitted nomination papers from three constituencies in Karachi — NA-241, 245 and 247 — to contest the general election scheduled to be held on July 25.

Shahid Khaqan Challenges RO’s Decision: 

Former Prime Minister and PML-N leader Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Friday challenged the returning officer’s decision rejecting his nomination papers for NA-53 Islamabad.

Abbasi filed an election petition through his lawyer, requesting an appellate tribunal to set aside the decision.

Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kiyani of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) will likely take up his appeal today.

The RO had earlier rejected the nomination papers of PTI chief Imran Khan, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Ayesha Gulalai for NA-53 constituency.NA 53: Nominations of Former PM Abbasi, Gullali RejectedAccording to the ECP, the nomination forms were turned down over violation of Section N of the affidavit, relating to development work a candidate undertook in their constituency.

The objection raised by the returning officer stated that the respective candidates failed to fill up affidavit according to the conditions mentioned.Meanwhile, today is the last day for filing of appeals against rejection or acceptance of nomination papers by returning officers for the National and provincial assemblies’ seats.

Imran Khan Also Challenged RO’s Verdict in Tribunal:

Election tribunal on Thursday directed the returning officer (RO) Islamabad’s NA-53 constituency to submit a complete record of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan’s nomination papers.

Islamabad High Court Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani took up on Thursday Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan’s plea challenging the dismissal of his nomination papers from the capital’s NA-53 constituency.

As Justice Kayani took up Imran’s plea, the PTI chief’s counsel Babar Awan informed the court that Imran heads Pakistan’s largest political party and is waging a struggle for the basic rights of people.

The judge inquired why the RO disqualified Khan from the constituency. The appellate tribunal while issuing notice to RO directed him to submit the entire record till Friday(today).
