Farooq Sattar Challenges ECP Jurisdiction in Convenership Case

Islamabad (March 01, 2018): MQM-Pakistan Leader Dr Farooq Sattar on Thursday challenged the jurisdiction of Election Commission of Pakistan regarding the MQM-P convenership and intra-party polls issue.

Sattar submitted a new plea stating that the ECP has no jurisdiction to listen to internal matters of a party as their powers are clear under the article 218 and 220 of the constitution.

The plea also asked to reject the application of Kanwar Naveed Jamil.

Earlier, Farooq Sattar appeared before the election commission along with Sheikh Salahuddin, Ali Raza Abidi and Salman Baloch while Kanwar Naveed, Amir Khan and Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui represented the Bahadurabad faction.

Bahadurabad member Barrister Faroogh Naseem said that they still have a lot of respect for Farooq Sattar but could not understand as to why he is giving such statements in the media.He also expressed hope that the matters would be resolved soon.

Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said that the issue was not of convenership but of principles and MQM would become an organization that would determine the future course of politics in the country.On the other hand, PIB leader Kamran Tessori said that the future of MQM lies in the constitution and as per law and let’s see what the constitution and law would decide today.

Earlier, several of the MQM-P activists also tried to enter the ECP but were barred by the security forces. The activists were of the view that they were also part of the case and should be allowed to record their statements.
