Fazl-led ‘Azadi March’ Sets to Move Towards Islamabad

KARACHI: The Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl’s (JUI-F) “Azadi March” will start moving towards Islamabad form Sukkur on Monday (today).

JUI-F Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman began its much-awaited Azadi march on Sunday from Karachi’s Sohrab Goth area.

The marchers, who are scheduled to enter Islamabad on Oct 31, reached Sukkur at the end of the first day of their journey.

A JUI-F convoy set out from Quetta on Sunday and is expected to reach Islamabad via the Loralai-Dera Ghazi Khan route. Marchers will be joining in from Turbat, Gwadar, Chaghi, and Naushki.

The marchers also include workers and leaders of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N), and the Awami National Party (ANP).

The Azadi March officially began after an address by Maulana Fazl at Sohrab Goth to show solidarity with the people of Indian Occupied Kashmir.

A large number of buses and other vehicles have been hired to transport the participants of Azadi March.

During the journey, they passed through many towns and cities of Sindh, including Hyderabad, Sakrand, Nawabshah and Sanghar.

However, there was a sudden change in the itinerary of JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, who led the marchers from Karachi to Hyderabad, and instead of moving towards Sukkur with the marchers, he went to Larkana.

According to sources, the JUI-F chief will join the marchers again in Sukkur today.

On Sunday, addressing the protesters from atop a special container at Sohrab Goth, Fazl reiterated the opposition’s demand for Prime Minister Imran Khan’s removal.

“Imran Khan must tender his resignation. We have proven today that the entire nation is united in its wish to see Imran Khan removed from office,” he said.

“We never accepted the 2018 elections or the government that was formed on the basis of those questionable results,” the JUI-F added.

He asserted that the protesters would not violate any laws and the march would comply with all the conditions stipulated by the administration.

Fazl also condemned the National Database and Registration Authority’s decision to declare former senator Hafiz Hamdullah a “confirmed alien”.

He said the protesters would not be intimidated by any such tactics.
