Firdous Ashiq Awan Leaves PPP, Joins Pakistan Tehreek Insaf

Islamabad (May 30, 2017): Former federal Minister and Pakistan People’s Party leader Firdous Ashiq Awan has formally joined the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) after meeting with PTI Chairman Irman Khan and reposed complete trusts in his leadership.

According to the details, Former federal minister for Information Firdous Ashiq Awan has abdicated Pakistan Peoples Party and  joined PTI.

The storming visit of PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari to Lahore and attempt to placate angry party leaders went in vain as one of them, Firdos Ashiq Awan leaving PPP behind joined the PTI ranks.

Firdus Ashiq Awan first met with PTI senior leader Jahangir Tareen and then went to Murree accompanied with Tareen wherein she met PTI Chairman Imran Khan and formally announced her joining.

According to PTI, the former PPP leader is likely to make a formal announcement today after meeting with PTI Chairman Imran Khan.

Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan got elected as Member of the National assembly for the first time in 2002 on PML-Q’s ticket. She later left the party by resigning from the seat of National Assembly and went into by-election from Pakistan Peoples Party ticket and got re-elected in 2008.

During PPP tenure, she was appointed as Federal Minister for National Regulation and Services.

She had given her resignation to then Prime Minister Yousef Raza Gillani on 25 December 2011 because she thought “party leaders are continuously ignoring her.” The resignation was later declined by Gilani after holding a one-to-one meeting with Awan.

Last week,  Noor Alam, who was one of the most senior PPP leaders in KP, met with PTI Chairman Imran Khan on his residence, Bani Gala and expressed complete trust in Imran Khan’s leadership.

Commenting over quitting party he said “It was a difficult decision for me but I am left with no option,” while referring to his eventful journey that also included a jail term. He was put behind bars during the rule of former President Parvez Musharraf in 2007.

Khan was elected MNA from Peshawar in 2008. He also hit headlines, when he disclosure of his assets worth billions to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

Noor Alam was also the Member Organizing Committee of the Pakistan People’s Party and an ex-MNA from Peshawar.

He was the richest lawmaker of the lower house of the parliament in 2008 and he declared his personal assets worth billions of rupees.
