First phase of population census to conclude on Monday

ISLAMABAD:  The first phase of the population and household census, which is underway in the first block, will conclude on Monday.

The first block is comprised 63 district across the country. Homeless people in the first block will be counted on Tuesday.

The first block in the census includes 16 districts in Punjab, 15 in Balochistan, 14 in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, eight in Sindh and five each in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.

The house-listing operation in the second block will start on Friday and continue for three days. The headcount in the second block will be carried out from April 3 to 13.

All the provincial capitals are part of the first phase. Two days — March 29 and March 30 — have been reserved for retrieval of the filled-out forms.

The summary results of the census, comprising district-wise population details, urban-rural population and male-female ratio will be ready by July 25. Initial results will be released by August 5.

The countrywide census began on March 14, as the interior minister gave army judicial powers to hand down on-the-spot verdicts against those who refuse to cooperate or give false information.

The exercise is taking place after a delay of 19 years, as the last population census was conducted in 1998.
