AC Adjourns Flagship Reference Case Until Tomorrow

Islamabad (October 30, 2018): Accountability court has adjourned the Flagship Reference case until tomorrow.

AC Judge Arshad Malik heard the case as Wajid Zia was questioned for the seventh consecutive day.

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) prosecutor Wasiq Malik on Tuesday gave concluding arguments and told the accountability court that NAB has acquired all the evidence in case against Nawaz Sharif pertaining to Al-Azizia reference.

As the hearing went underway, NAB prosecutor stated that as many as 22 witnesses recorded their statements yesterday. He also submitted copies of verdicts of Supreme Court (SC) announced on April-20 and July-28.On the other hand, Nawaz Sharif’s legal counsel Khawaja Haris raised objections on the Malik’s statement.

He told court that SC’s verdict announced on April-20 wasn’t linked with this case.

In the next hearing, prime accused Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) supremo will record his statement in the accountability court.

In the hearing held yesterday at AC, M.L.S. written to U.A.E authorities were made part of the court evidence. Wajid Zia told that legal questions were asked in the M.L.S. written to U.A.E. Authorities.

Previously, Nawaz Sharif’s lawyers asked Accountability Court to take notice of Information Minister’s statement in which he claimed that the former prime minister would be convicted in the Flagship Reference.

Zubair Khalid Advocate told Judge Arshad Malik to take notice of the matter as the minister’s statement would damage the credibility of the court. The judge asked whether the minister generally speaking or he was talking about the court. He said during a murder trial suspects were of the view that the court would acquit them, but he said regardless of what the suspects say, the case would be decided by the court.

He directed the lawyers of the former prime minister to file an application on the matter so that the court could review it.

Sharif’s lawyer Khawaja Haris asked the court to seek a transcript of the minister’s statement.

Earlier on October 25, Khawaja Haris continued cross-examination of JIT head Wajid Zia.

Responding on Khawaja Haris questions, Wajid Zia said that original copies of sources documents acquired from Gorneka presented in the court which showed that Nawaz Sharif worked there as marketing manager and as chairman board.

“Hassan Nawaz told JIT that the financial statements of flagship were prepared by his accountant, however, Hassan Nawaz accountant had not included in the JIT probe,” he told the court.

He continued, “Hassan Nawaz also told that he had arranged the money for FZE and the same amount later had handed over to Quaint Paddington.”Wajid Zia informed the court that he has not mentioned in JIT that Hassan Nawaz was the owner of the company, Capital FZE established by Hassan Nawaz and Nawaz Sharif was receiving money from the company.

He further told that according to Jafza documents, Nawaz Sharif was an employee of Capital FZE and another document showed that he worked as chairman board.
Khawaja Haris asked Wajid Zia, “Tell the court what the real task had you accomplished.”

On which Wajid Zia became enraged and said, “If word tampering has become an issue of life and death you must do it.”

Later, the court adjourned the hearing.
