ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Foreign Office (FO) refuted the allegations of Human Rights Watch (HRW) leveled in its report regarding repatriation of Afghan refugees.
FO spokesperson said in a statement that the baseless allegations of coercion were disappointing and irresponsible.
He said the report is counter-productive to the objective of harmony between the refugees and the host communities as well as the shared goal of dignified voluntary returns. As a host country, Pakistan’s exemplary role has been recognized and appreciated by the international community, he added.
The spokesperson said, “Pakistan expects and urges the international community to step up and fulfill their obligations towards Afghan refugees through solidarity and burden sharing.”
He said Pakistan is committed to safe and voluntary repatriation of Afghan refugees in the best interest of the two countries and the region.
