Former CJ Justice Siddiqui set to replace Dr Ibad as Governor

KARACHI:  Former Chief Justice Supreme Court of Pakistan justice (retd) Saeed-uz-Zaman Siddiqui is going to replace incumbent Governor Sindh Dr Ishratul Ibad.

Governor Dr Ibad, who has been in office for the last 14 years , was removed on Wednesday by the federal government and he Justice Siddiqui is replacing him.

Justice Saeeduz Zaman Siddiqui has contested presidential election against former President Asif Ali Zardari as Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz candidate, but he lost the election.

Justice Siddiqui has remained chief justice of Sindh High Court and Supreme Court of Pakistan.

It is to be mentioned here that Dr Ibad became Sindh’s youngest governor on Dec 27, 2002 as a representative of then president Gen Pervez Musharraf. He served as Sindh governor for nearly 14 years, which is a record.

Born at Calcutta on December 1, 1937, Siddiqui received his school education at Lucknow. He graduated from University of Karachi in 1958 and did his LL.B. from University of Karachi in 1960.

He joined the Bar in February 1961 and enrolled as Advocate of High Court of West Pakistan. In November 1963, he enrolled as Advocate of Supreme Court of Pakistan.  He was appointed as judge of High Court of Sindh on May 5, 1980.
