Full Dress Security Rehearsal Underway For PSL Karachi Match

Karachi (February 11, 2018): Security authorities are carrying out a full dress security rehearsal for the upcoming scheduled Final match of the Pakistan Super League in Karachi. 

It is for the first time that the Pakistan Super League Match would be held in Karachi. Earlier, some of the matches were held in Lahore for first and second edition of PSL while the major matches of the tournament were played in UAE.

According to details, the roads leading from Civic Center, Dalmia, Karsaz and New Town towards National Stadium Karachi were closed down. Special security arrangements were also made in the surrounding of Jinnah International Airport from where the security team would arrive the city to review the security arrangements for the PSL matches in Karachi.

At least 8,000 personnel of different law enforcement agencies are taking part in the rehearsal which will take place in two parts: the first leg of the rehearsal will stretch from the airport to the hotel where the teams will be staying; the second leg of the rehearsal will take place from the hotel to Karachi’s National Stadium.

It is pertinent to mention here that the chief minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah constituted different committees and assigned them the task for the security of PSL matches in Karachi during a meeting at the CM House on  Friday.

The Executive committee headed by chief secretary would make over all monitoring. There should also be Intelligence/Security Committee and Civic Issues related Committee. The security committee include Police, Rangers, army and intelligence agencies officers. They would share their intelligence reports among themselves on daily basis.He directed the civic agency which is under local government minister and Mayor Karachi would make arrangements for provision of lighting, drinking water, parking sites, cleanliness and also arrange medical facilities.

The meeting decided that there would be aerial surveillance by helicopters being provided by Corps Commander Karachi. The commandoes would be deployed around the stadium and the police would take control inside the stadium.

The IG Police AD Khawaja told the chief minister that he had sent a team to Lahore to observe the security arrangements for international cricket match played between Pakistan and Sri Lanka on October 29, 2017. The same security model with some improvements is being implemented here.The chief minister directed Secretary Health to talk to Aga Khan Hospital and Liaquat National Hospital for providing special health services, in case of need.

The chief minister directed the IG police to identify and declare alternate traffic routes for public convenience. “We have facilitate each and every person who want to witness the match at stadium,” he said and added “I am sure there should be foolproof security arrangements in the entire city, particularly from the airport to Hotels and hotels to stadium. This extra ordinary security should not cause harassment among the citizens but “let the citizens enjoy the event in a festive manner- it is their event and they [people of Karachi] would cooperate with Law Enforcement agencies,” he hoped.

The chief minister was told that there was capacity of 40,000 spectators in the stadium. It would be a big event in terms of public audience.
