Islamabad (Sep 9, 2017): Chief Justice Islamabad High Court (IHC) Justice Muhammad Anwar Khan Kasi on Saturday constituted an special larger bench of IHC to hear the petition filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief Imran Khan against the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) proceeding in foreign funding case.

The special larger bench has been constituted under Justice Amir Farooq of IHC.

Earlier, when the case came up for hearing before Justice Mian Gul Hassan Aurangzaib of IHC, he had referred it to the CJ with recommendation to constitute larger bench of the court to hear the petition. The CJ IHC while constituting the larger bench fixed the petition for hearing before it on Sept 11, 2017.

The court has sought comments from PTI chief’s counsel Baber Awan over the petition on next date of hearing. On Saturday, the five-page written order of the single-member bench on the matter was also issued.

It is to be mentioned here that Imran Khan has challenged the ECP’s proceeding in the foreign funding case filed by one of the founding members of PTI Akbar S. Baber.

Khan has pleaded the court to restrain the commission from hearing the matter. The cricketer-turned-politician has argued that a petition of similar nature was already pending before Supreme Court so till the adjudication of the that petition ECP should not hear the foreign funding case.

The single-member bench had earlier rejected PTI’s peal to immediately  stay the ECP proceeding.
