Gas leakage suffocates 18 miners to death in China

 HUNAN: (May 9, 2017) At least 18 coal miners died due to suffocation by gas leakage following Sunday’s accident at the Jilinqiao mine in Hunan province.

Whereas another 37 miners were rescued and taken to a hospital for treatment. Investigators are testing the gas while police have detained an unspecified number of people in connection with the accident.

A miner said on the condition of  anonymity that after the mine manager was informed of the gas leak, he asked workers to enter to save their colleagues. Some of the rescue team, including the manager himself, were among those killed.

China is one of the world’s largest coal producers and deadly accidents in mines are common there.
