Google’s self-driving car unit sues Uber

CALIFORNIA: Google’s self-driving car unit Waymo has sued Uber for stealing trade secrets and technology.

Google filed a complaint in California district court suing Uber for patent infringement and violation of the Trade Secret Act, California Uniform Trade Secret Act and California’s Business and Professions Code 17200.

The lawsuit argues that former Waymo manager Anthony levandowski took information when he left the co-found an venture that became Otto. The lawsuit alleges that Levandowski downloaded 1,4000 highly confidential design files when he was Google employee.

Waymo said that it discovered the breach when a supplier inadvertently sent them drawings of Uber’s own LiDar circuit board, which looked remarkably like Waymo’s own.

Levandowski is also accused of installing and using specialized software on the company laptop to steal trade secrets, blue prints, test files and other documents amounting to 9.7 GB of data.
