Govt, Opposition Could Not Finalize CEC Nominee

ISLAMABAD: The parliamentary committee on Friday could not made progress during a meeting to discuss names for the appointment of chief election commissioner (CEC) .

The meeting was chaired by its Chairman Dr Shireen Mazari wherein the government and the opposition considered nominees for the Chief Election Commissioner.

From the government side Pervez Khattak, Senator Azam Swati, Ali Muhammad Khan, Fakhr Imam and Senator Naseeb Ullah will be in attendace besides Shireen Mazari as a Chairman of the committee.

Raja Pervez Asharaf, Rana Sanaullah, Mushahid Ullah Khan, Sheza Fatima Khawaja, Shahida Akhtar Ali and Sikandar Mendoro will attend the meeting from the opposition parties.

The both sides have agreed on the names recommended for the vacant seats of ECP’s Sindh and Balochistan chapters, however, the name of CEC was undecided as the names of Babar Yaqoob and Fateh Muhammad were not withdrawn.
