Islamabad (September 14, 2018): The federal government on Friday has declared Muharram 9th and 10th as holidays.
According to the notification issued by the interior ministry that on September 20 and 21 will be the public holidays on the occasion of the Ashura, Muharram-ul-Haram.“All the government offices and educational institutes will remain closed on September 20 and 21 while the banks and markets will also remain shut down.
Earlier, Punjab Home Department imposed a ban on pillion riding across the province for a period of two days to thwart any untoward incident during Muharram-ul-Haram.According to a notification issued on Wednesday, the ban on pillion riding has been imposed under Section 144 on Muharram 9 and 10.
Families, senior citizens, journalists, and government officials have been exempted from the ban.
Sources said that a total of 100 companies of the Pakistan Army and the Punjab Rangers will be deployed across Punjab for security during Muharram.
Pakistan Army and Rangers personnel would be deployed at the most sensitive places,
