ISLAMABAD: The federal government on Wednesday held out written assurance to Supreme Court of Pakistan to carry out population census from March 15 next year.
Additional Attorney General submitted written reply on a suo motu notice regarding inordinate delay in conducing population census in the country. A division bench headed by Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali heard the case.
The government in its written reply assured the court to carry out population census from March 15, 2017, saying that the exercise would be completed within two month; i.e May 15, 2017.
The Chief Justice remarked hopefully the government would implement its assurance, saying that if the government failed to implement its assurances it would commit contempt of court. He warned that contempt proceeding would be initiated in case of failure to implement the written assurances.
After the written assurance the court disposed of the suo motu notice regarding inordinate delay in census.
