Govt Considering Strategy To Prevent 6 Animal-borne Diseases

Islamabad (August 27, 2017): The government is considering chalking out a strategy to help prevent six dangerous animal-borne diseases including deadly Congo virus.

A conference in this regard was organized here with the cooperation of US Department of Agriculture. The specialists addressing the conference said that Pakistan houses a large number of cattle many of which acts as courier to pass off deadly Congo virus and rabies to humans.It is thus imperative to improve the environment conducive to ensure the animal health,one of the speaker  Dr. Muhammad Afzal of United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization stressed.

The speakers said that improving cattle and livestock health would also help push export of volume and value of livestock and meat substantially.

In his concluding speech federal Secretary Health Muhammad Ayub Shaikh said the government would chalk out a strategy to prevent the dangerous animal-borne diseases in the light of the recommendations of the conference.
