Lahore (October 17, 2017): The head of banned outfit Jamaat ud-Dawa Hafiz Saeed and his four aides have been produced before the provincial review board, a division bench of Lahore High Court and their counsel requested to board for their release.
The board meeting headed by Justice Yawar Ali held in Lahore High Court as Hafiz Saeed and his four accomplices- Kashif Hussain, Abudllah Ubaid, Zafar Iqbal and Abdur Rehman produced before the board amid strict security arrangements.
Punjab government’s lawyer Sattar Sahi, who is presenting Punjab home department, told the court that the accused were under house arrest on the federal government’s orders, therefore court requested for extension in their house arrest.The counsel of the accused told the court that Punjab home department has put their client in preventive detentions without any allegations or reasons.
The board has summoned the record against the accused and adjourned the hearing till October 19.
It is to be mentioned here that Punjab Home Department last month had extended detention of Hafiz Saeed for 30 more days.Earlier, on August 1st, Punjab government extended the house arrest of Hafiz Saeed by two months, accused by the United States of masterminding 2008 attacks on the Indian financial capital of Mumbai that killed 166 people.
Saeed was put under house arrest in January after years of living freely in Pakistan, one of the sore points in the country’s fraying relationship with the United States. His freedom had also infuriated Pakistan’s arch-foe, India.
