AC Resumes Avenfield Ref Hearing Against Sharif Family

Islamabad (April 10, 2018): The accountability court on Tuesday resumed hearing into Avenfield Apartments reference filed by NAB against Sharif family.  

Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif along with his daughter Maryam Nawaz and Captain (R) Safdar reached at the accountability court for the hearing.

Judge, Muhammad Bashir resumed the hearing of the case with Khawaja Haris, the lawyer of Nawaz Sharif continuing cross examination from from prime witness and head of former JIT probing Panama Papers Wajid Zia.

The Sharif counsel asked whether JIT had sought record of Capital FZE Company’s owner, director and secretary from the Jable Ali Free Zone Authority (JAFZA) over which, Wajid Zia said that he had not contacted the company in this regard. Company’s name was present in the list of trading license, he added.

The defence lawyer further asked whether he had verified the list over which, JIT head responded “No”.

Meanwhile, Justice Bashir directed Khawaja Harris to limitize his cross examination.

During yesterday’s hearing of the case, counsels of NAB and Nawaz Sharif exchanged hot words, when Deputy prosecutor-general asserted that Nawaz Sharif had accepted his employment.

“Does the defence council refuses to accept documents pertaining to the employment,” he inquired during the proceedings of the Avanfield reference filed by NAB today.The proceedings were headed by the Judge Muhammad Bashir. Former Premier Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz and Captain(R) Safdar appeared before the court.

During the proceedings the NAB official sought the attention of the court towards the ‘harassment of the witness’ claiming that the counsel for respondent was asking unnecessary questions.

On the other hand, Haris, a seasoned lawyer told Wajd Zia that he had changed his stance on seven instances warning him that ‘he might not get caught in the process’.
