Karachi (August 30, 2017): Second monsoon spell has started in Karachi, Hyderabad and other cities of Sindh on Wednesday. Met department has predicted heavy rainfall in next couple of days in coastal belt of Sindh and Balochistan Provinces.
Reports of rainfall have been received from Saddar, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Shahrah-e-Faisal, Airport, Gulshan-e-Hadeed, Malir and other areas.

Lightning was reported from Gulzar-e-Hijri and surrounding areas.
Hyderabad has also received heavy rainfall today, while rain has also started affecting Badin, Mithi and Thatha districts.
According to the Met, the heavy rainfall is expected to lash the metropolis over the next few days. The low-pressure system moving in from the South East is expected to bring over 40mm of rainfall coupled with winds as high as 60 kilometres per hour, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

According to the PMD, the weather system is going to affect the country’s south from Wednesday night till Friday after which the focus will shift to the northern region and will continue till Sunday.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Sindh has also issued multiple warnings directing all land departments to take ‘precautionary measures’ to avoid any untoward situation and make sure the response mechanism is adopted.
According to a weather warning issued by Pakistan Meteorological Department, Karachi and other coastal areas of the province are likely to experience soaring temperatures for a couple of days, which will then be followed by a heavy downpour starting from late Wednesday night.

The temperature is expected to increase over 40°C and sea breeze will also be at its very low due to the rainfall system.
The Met office has warned of urban flooding if necessary arrangements are not taken by the municipal authorities. Met has advised the authorities concerned to ensure cleanliness of storm water drains system of the city to avoid flooding.
Earlier today, the Sindh government directed relevant authorities to ensure preparations due to heavy rain predictions in the province.

As forecast, the metropolis began receiving rain on Tuesday with reports of light to heavy showers in Defence, New Karachi, Super Highway, Federal B Area, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal and University Road, among other areas.
The low pressure may gain intensity with possible widespread rain and thundershowers at Karachi as well as in other lower divisions of the province.
Under influence of the strong monsoon system from India, the meteorologist said moderate to heavy and very heavy rainfalls can also be expected in the given areas, along with scattered parts of upper Sindh during next few days.
Departments concerned have been directed to make preparations for any emergency situation in case of flooding.
The government has directed the municipal and relevant authorities to ensure the cleaning and drainage of the sewage system.
Fishermen have also been asked to refrain from going to the seas until September 2.
The provincial capital, Karachi, has been seeing intermittent rain spells over the past week, claiming over five lives and causing severe drainage and electricity issues.

At least 24 people were killed in rain-related incidents when heavy showers lashed the metropolis last week. Over 300 feeders of K-Electric (K-E), the private power supplier of the city, tripped following the heavy rains and thunderstorm, while most fatalities were caused by electrocution. The swamping of roads created traffic jams, as dozens of vehicles broke down in the middle of the roads at different places.
During the recent spell of rain last week, District Malir was one of the most affected areas that remained submerged in rainwater for days, even after the rain had stopped. Now that another spell of rain is ready to hit the city, it can cause way more damage to the city.
Karachi Metropolitan Corporation officials said that with limited resources and power they are trying their best to serve the people and try to provide them with relief at any cost. A senior director for municipal services shared that all their arrangements have been done, including repair of suction pumps, in order to deal with any emergency.
