Emergency Declared After Heavy Rainfall In Twin Cities

Islamabad (August 07, 2018): Authorities declared rain emergency in Rawalpindi and Islamabad as heavy rain lashed the twin cities and adjacent areas on Monday night.

Continuous downpour in different areas inundated roads and streets in the twin cities and commuters faced immense difficulties while trying to carry on with their routines.

Several areas in Rawalpindi such as Sadiqabad, Shamsabad, Committee Chowk and Javed Colony submerged in water. The rainwater also entered in the houses causing trouble for the residents.According to Flood Control Unit, 202 milimetre of rain was recorded so far in the twin cities. Sources informed that water level in Nullah Lai has rose to 14 feet as a result Civil Defence, Rescue 1122, Wasa and other departments have been directed to remain alert.

On the other hand, the torrential rains also caused flooding in the nullahs and streams of Muzaffarabad. Landsliding triggered by the rain disconnected several areas from each other.According to Met Office, rain-thundershower (with isolated heavy falls) accompanied by gusty winds is expected at scattered places in Hazara, Kohat, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sargodha, Faisalabad divisions, Islamabad and Kashmir.
