Heavy rains, possible police action force YDA to shift protest to GoR Chowk

LAHORE:  Heavy rains and police threats to dismantle the protest camp forced the Young Doctors Association to shift their protest from The Mall to GoR Chowk.

The YDA members, who have been staging sit-in at The Mall for the last five days, vowed to continue their protest till their demands are met by the government.

On Saturday, Lahore Water Management’s employees also took to the road which led to worst traffic jam in the provincial metropolis.

With the protest of Water Management’s employees, police swing into action and CCPO Lahore Capt. (Retd) Amin Vince and DIG Operation Dr. Hyder Ashraf rushed to the Mall and held negotiations with the protesting employees. On their assurance that their demands would be conveyed to the high-ups, the protesting employee dispersed peacefully.

Earlier, police warned the Water Management employees and YDA members to vacate The Mall within 10 minutes; otherwise they would be removed forcefully. Heavy police personnel were deployed around the protesters. In the meantime, heavy rains with gusty winds lashed Lahore. The stormy wind coupled with heavy rains uprooted the protesters camps, which compelled the protesters to shift their camp from the The Mall to GoR Chowk.

Talking to media CCPO and DIG Operations Lahore said that in future no one would be allowed to block The Mall by staging protest on the busiest road of the city.
