Web Desk (June 23, 2018): Thirty-seventh Champions Trophy Hockey Tournament will be starting today in Holland. Pakistan will be playing the first match of the tournament will be played with favourite rival India.
Last and Thirty-Seventh Champions Trophy Hockey Tournament starts today at Breda, Holland. The opening match will be played at 5 PST, between traditional rival teams Pakistan and India.Other matches scheduled for today, will be between hosting country Holland and Argentina whereas Australia will be opposing Belgium.The six teams participating in this Champions Trophy includes World champion Australia, Olympic champion Argentina, Holland along with Belgium, India and Pakistan.
Pakistan will play second match opposite Australia on Sunday. Green shirts will be playing against the host Netherlands on 26th June. In matches of 28th and 29th June, Pakistan will compete with Argentina and Belgium respectively.The Champions Trophy Hockey Tournament was started on the proposal of Pakistan in 1978, in which trophy was also given by Pakistan. First Champions Trophy held in Lahore and was won by Pakistan.
Pakistan also won the titles in 1980 and 1994. Last time Pakistan won the championship was under the leadership of current PHF secretary, Shahbaz Ahmed.
