LAHORE: Home Department Punjab has sought deployment of 12 companies of Rangers in the province. The paramilitary force would enjoy policing powers.
Sources said that Home Department Punjab had sent request for 12 Rangers companies for deployment in 12 districts of the province. Initially, the paramilitary force would be deployed for 60 days.
As per the home department’s summary, Rangers would be empowered to take action against terrorist under section 7 and 10 of Rangers Act. The summary said that the personnel of rangers would take action against terrorists, their facilitators and banned outfit along with CTD officials.
The paramilitary force would have policing powers inlcduing powers to raid any place, arrest the accused and interrogate them. For interrogation from the accused, Joint Investigation Teams would be constituted which will also have Rangers man as member. The duration of Rangers’ deployment would be extended on need basis.
As per the summary, Home Department Punjab would be responsible to brief media about joint operations.
