Karachi (June 21, 2018): Renowned humorist Mushtaq Ahmed Yousufi’s funeral prayers were offered today after Zuhr prayers at Sultan Masjid in Defence Karachi. The Legend was then laid to rest in DHA Phase one graveyard. He passed away in Karachi yesterday.
He was awarded with Sitara-i-Imtiaz and Hilal-i-Imtiaz, the highest literary honours given by the government to civilians, in 1999 and 2002 respectively.His notable works include ‘Chiraagh Talay’, ‘Khakam Badahan’, ‘Zarguzasht’ and ‘Aab-i-Gum’, which recognized him as a master prose writer of Urdu with great wit.
What made Yousufi remarkable was not only his wordplay and repartee, but his refraining from traditional ways of invoking mirth, such as situational comedy or slapstick. His one-liners are often quoted in Urdu’s literary works.The Legend was laid to rest in DHA Phase one graveyard.
