ICJ To Take Up Indian Spy Kulbhushan Jadhav Case Tomorrow

THE HAGUE: International Court of Justice (ICJ) will formally commences public hearing from Monday (tomorrow) over case relating to detained Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav who confessed his involvement in terrorism activities in Pakistan.

Pakistan’s delegation including Director General South Asia Dr Mohammad Faisal and Attorney General Anwar Mansoor reached for The Hague in Netherlands while former chief justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani will perform duties as adhoc judge.

Pakistan has completed preparations for the case to be heard at the world court that scheduled public hearings from February 18-21 in The Hague.

New Delhi’s will argue first on Monday at 10:00am to 1:00pm while Islamabad will be given same time period to present arguments on Tuesday. Harish Salve will represent Indian in the case regarding Kulbhushan Jadhav. Later, India will continue presenting arguments on February 20 from 3:00pm to 4:00pm and Pakistan will argue on February 21 from 4:00pm to 6:00pm.

Both countries had submitted evidences and documents earlier but Islamabad and New Delhi could not submit more documents to the court. ICJ will give verdict three to four months after completion of hearing. Sources said that Islamabad has decided to accept verdict of the world court.

Yadhav was arrested from Balochistan in March 2016 and he has confessed to spying for Indian intelligence services. He was convicted by a military court and sentenced to death.

But India has maintained he is not a spy, and has accused Pakistan of violating the Vienna Convention by failing to provide him with consular access, as well as breaking international human rights law.
