ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday issued notice to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) after accepting appeal of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif seeking suspension of Al-Azizia verdict.
A two-member divisional bench comprising Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani took up the appeals challenging the verdicts of an accountability court in Al-Azizia and Flagship references.
Earlier on December 24, Nawaz Sharif was sentenced to seven years jail-term by the NAB court in Al-Azizia reference and fined Rs1.5 billion, however, he was acquitted in Flagship reference.
During the hearing, the bench sought submission of additional documents from Nawaz Sharif for his appeal to nullify jail-term in Al-Azizia verdict by an accountability court.
Nawaz’s counsel Khawaja Haris has earlier pleaded the high court to allow them bringing additional documents on records. Later, the court approved the plea and issued notice to NAB for producing verified record of the case.
Justice Farooq remarked that the court was not separating both of the appeals until production of records in the case.
It is noteworthy to mention here that the anti-corruption watchdog sought IHC to increase penalties on former premier Nawaz Sharif in Al-Azizia reference and challenged his acquittal in Flagship reference.
