The petition was filed by a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawyer Usman Saeed Basra.

Today, Justice Amir Farooq pronounced his verdict rejecting the petition for being non-maintainable.

Justice Amir Farooq of IHC had heard the petition. The petitioner submitted that the rally was an effort to undermine authority of the Supreme Court and pressurise accountability courts. The petitioner adopted that the Supreme Court of Pakistan through July 28 judgment disqualified Nawaz Sharif as MNA.

He and members of his party were in an effort to malign the apex court terming the ouster a conspiracy.

According to the petitioner, the rally is an effort to undermine the authority of the Supreme Court (SC) and pressurise the accountability court [set to hear the National Accountability Bureau’s references against the Sharif family].

The petitioner said that Nawaz Sharif — who was ousted the former prime minister on the SC’s behest — and members of his party are maligning the apex court by terming the ouster a ‘conspiracy’.

To incite public anger, PML-N and Nawaz Sharif have decided to lead a public rally from Islamabad to Lahore on August 8. This act is tantamount to subvert and undermine authority of judiciary and thus an attack on independence of judiciary. With show of power, PML-N and Nawaz Sharif want to pressurize National Accountability Bureau (NAB) that will be hearing corruption references.

The petitioner prayed to the court to direct federal government, ICT administration and Punjab government to stop this rally.
