IHC Stops Police And Administration To Harass PTI Activists

Islamabad: Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday stopped capital police and administration to harass activists of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) while the court has issued notices to Inspector General (IG) Islamabad and Deputy Commissioner.

Chief Justice Athar Minallah heard the case pertaining to the arrest of PTI activists and blockade of roads and highways owing to the party’s long march.

The PTI counsel contended that a protest is constitutional right of the PTI but from the last night crackdown against the PTI activists, leaders and workers have started.

The CJ remarked that there is a verdict of the Supreme Court regarding the sit-in and we decide the case as per the verdict.

He said that the sit-in of 2014 was started after taking permission from the government and then the court ordered it and that time a petition was brought that arrests were made and the court ordered it.

Athar Minallah said that some time ago members of National Assembly were harassed in the parliament lodges adding that it must be considered by the government and should allow legal rights and should allow peacefully adding that peaceful protest are your right.

The CJ said that after the order of 2014, PTV and the parliament were attacked and a senior police officer had been tortured at that time writ of the government was challenged.

He asked can the court take responsibility for what happened after 2014 sit-in? and for this the court has to be cautious.

The CJ also questioned the PTI counsel has you given an application for the rally ? the counsel replied in affirmative.
